THE 2017 ATLANTIC MIDGET FEMALE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY

Tournament runs from March 30-April 2 at the East Hants Sportsplex

 

LANTZ, N.S. – The puck has officially dropped on the 2017 Atlantic Midget Female Hockey Championship.

The Atlantic championship, featuring the top female Midget hockey teams from across the region, runs from March 30-April 2 at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, N.S.

The action got underway this afternoon as the Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League champion Northern Subway Selects took on Prince Edward Island’s Mid-Isle Wildcats in the opening game of the tournament. Julia Scammell scored the game-winning goal for the Selects with 11:34 to go in the third period as the Nova Scotia representatives edged the Wildcats 3-2.

It was a busy opening day for Mid-Isle as they were the only team to hit the ice twice on Day 1. The Wildcats faced off against the tournament host Pro Cresting Penguins in the third game of the day. Taylor Gillis and Makayla Larsen each scored in the second period for Mid-Isle and Keiran Andrews added an empty net goal as the Wildcats skated to a 3-1 win.

In the other match-up of the day, New Brunswick’s Moncton Rockets topped Newfoundland and Labrador’s Western Warriors 6-3. Lauren Shaw scored twice and Noemie Hache stopped 38 of the 41 shots fired her way to help lead the Rockets to the victory.

The winner of the Atlantic championship will represent the region at the 2017 Esso Cup in Morden, Man. The national championship runs from April 23-27, 2017.
