Grand Falls-Windsor, NL-  The Western Warriors Midget AAA Female team won the provincial championship on Saturday in Glovertown, by beating the Eastern Ice Breakers in two straight games of the best of three finals for the 2018 crown.  Both contests were close, with scores of 4-2 and 3-1.  The team is made up of the best 15, 16 and 17 year old female players in the western region of the province.

Although the Ice Breakers came away with the silver, they will have another opportunity, as they are hosting the Atlantic Regional Championship in Mount Pearl, NL from March 29- April 1, 2018. The Warriors will represent Hockey NL for the fourth straight year at the event.  The Atlantic Regional Championship is the final event to determine who will represent Atlantic Canada at the 2018 Esso Cup Female Midget National Championship taking place this year in Halifax, NS from April 22-28, 2018.

The provincial tournament featured four teams.  The bronze winners, the Tri Pen Ice, and the Central Ice Pak also participated in the championships with the Warriors and Ice Breakers.
