 Additional Notes for each course:

 

Coach 1 (Intro Coach): To obtain Coach 1 trained status, coaches must complete the Hockey Canada University online course. The cost of the online and in class course is $91.00. We advise you to check with your minor hockey association President before registering for the online course, MHAs may cover fees or have a payment plan set-up within your association.

 

Upon full Hockey University course completion, you can now register for an in-class session. The in-class portion is 3.5 hours in-class and 1.5 hours on-ice. To view a list of in-class locations CLICK HERE

 

Coach 2 (Coach Level) – To obtain Coach 2 trained status, coaches must complete the Hockey Canada University online course. The cost of the online and in-class course is $86.00. We advise you to check with your minor hockey association President before registering for the online course, MHAs may cover fees or have a payment plan set-up within your association.

 

Additional Notes for Coach Level 1 and Coach Level 2:

  1. To sign-up for online Hockey University CLICK HERE *Please note new users will have to set-up an account.
  1. Please note coaches only need to complete the online Hockey U course. For example if a user completes the full Coach 1 course he/she is eligible to now register for a Coach Level 2 in-class as the online would already be completed.

 

  1. Certification is not required at the Coach 1 or 2 Level. Once you have completed Coach Level 2 you are now eligible to register for a Development 1 coaching course.

(Under Hockey Canada guidelines only one of these courses can be completed each hockey season).

 

Development 1 – At least one member of the coaching staff must be D1 certified for Provincial Tournaments. (Refer to Coaching Requirements Chart)

To become Development 1 certified a coach must:

  1. Attend the in-class clinic (12-14 hours)
  2. Complete the post task work book (signed off by MHA TD/President & Course Facilitator)
  3. Complete the Online Making Ethical Decisions Course – MED Competition Introduction

*The MED course will be offered for free once a coach is registered into the national database (registration could take up to a couple weeks post in-class clinic).

 

 

High Performance 1 – This course is for advanced coaches and is a weeklong course offered yearly throughout Canada. The HP1 course is offered every two years in Atlantic Canada (Halifax 2015 – Summer). To apply to take this course, coaches must contact the Hockey NL office (office@hockeynl.ca – 709. 489. 5512)

 

 

All coaches, trainers and managers must complete the Hockey Canada Speak Out/Respect in Sport (available online) This is also requirement to become a coach at any level.
