HOCKEY NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR MALE UNDER 16 TEAM READY FOR START OF GATORADE EXCELLENCE CHALLENGE
The Male Under 16 Gatorade Excellence Challenge presented by the QMJHL begins Friday, May 3rd with Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador facing off against Nova Scotia, game time is 12:30pm (Eastern Standard Time), for a complete tournament schedule CLICK HERE.
Players from each team participated in the Under Armour Combine on Thursday, which consisted of tests both on and off the ice. The coaching staff also released the Captain and Assistant Captain selections for the U16 team:
Captain: Adam Holwell
Assistant Captain: Nathan Noel
Assistant Captain: Jordan King
Assistant Captain: Adam Caines
“We have a terrific group of young men who have demonstrated leadership skills both on and off the ice, we feel anyone of these players could wear a letter,” stated U16 Head Coach Rob Canning. “We feel the leaders we have chosen will exhibit the leadership needed to compete against the best from Atlantic Canada and Quebec”.

The HNL U16 team regrouped in Goulds on April 29 in preparation for the event, the team played an exhibition game against a group of Midget Selects on Tuesday evening at Goulds arena. Fans that attended the game were asked to bring a non-perishable food item. On Wednesday, the team on the way to the airport donated the food items to theCommunity Food Sharing Centre.
During the regroup the team also had a special visit, from Grand Falls-Windsor hockey player Luke Fifield. Luke is currently in a battle against Leukemia and the Male Under 16 team donated a team signed game jersey with Luke’s #5 number. The team will also wear a #5 ribbon helmet sticker in support of Luke’s fight.
