Grand Falls-Windsor, NL- Hockey NL will be holding their Annual General Meeting at the Albatross Hotel in Gander this coming Friday, June 10th, with the closing session on Sunday, June 12th.

This AGM brings together the Association’s Board of Directors, Life Members and representatives from all Minor Hockey Associations, as well as Female, Junior, and Senior Hockey delegates are in attendance to report on the past hockey season and to prepare for the 2016-2017 season.

This meeting will feature the opening session which will provide the opportunity for the branch executive and staff to highlight the successes and challenges in the last season. Each individual division of hockey will hold separate sessions on Saturday to report and prepare for their respective category of hockey.

Some of the interesting subjects on the 2016 AGM Agenda:

* Report on Hockey Canada’s Spring Congress including the discussion on the re-focus and re-branding of the entry level initiation hockey player in the game.

* Discussion on the possible expansion on AAA Female Hockey in the province.

*Discussion on the pilot project that removed body checking from recreational minor hockey in the past hockey season.

* Governance Restructuring

Jack Lee, of Goulds, just finished his fifth year as president of the provincial association and is looking forward to the weekend. “This was a great year for our association. We successfully hosted the Don Johnson Cup Junior B Championship and Major Midget regional championship. Our registration numbers are at an all-time high, we have a new minor hockey association and our teams were competitive on the national stage last year winning two Atlantic Championships”, said Lee.

Hockey NL will be holding their Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Award Presentations on Saturday, June 11, 2016. There will be 4 new members of the Hockey Hall of Fame that will be officially inducted as well as presentations of several annual awards such as the President’s Award, Meritorious Awards, Female Promotional Award, Joe Byrne Development Honor Roll Award, Charlie McCarthy Memorial Award, and the Ron Healey Memorial Award.

Lee stated that it is very important to recognize our volunteers. “Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and it is fitting to honor them during our AGM”.
