2020 GLOBAL GIRLS’ GAME

 

Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador, in partnership with Hockey Canada and the Hockey Canada Foundation, will be hosting the 2020 Global Girls’ Game in co-operation with the IIHF. Presented by BFL Canada, the Canadian segment of the IIHF Global Girls’ Game will take place in St. John’s, NL.

 

PURPOSE OF EVENT

 The IIHF Global Girls’ Game originated in 2015. This unique event was created to unite federations around the world by having players from around the globe all playing for the same team. In Canada, we have developed this event to involve players from all Member to create a complete Canadian leg of the Global Game. Players chosen for this event exemplify positive attitudes, teamwork and leadership that reflect the philosophy of the Global Girls’ Game and hockey in Canada.

Players will be divided into two teams of 20. Players will be mixed geographically with the goal of creating similar calibre and a mix of players from various parts of Canada on each team.

 

IMPORTANT DATES

November 20 – Application process sent out by Hockey NL

December 6 – Deadline for applications

December 13 – Successful applicants notified by Hockey NL

December 20 – Welcome package distributed to participants by Hockey Canada February 7 – Players arrive in St. John’s, NL

February 8-9 – Global Girls Weekend February 9 – Players depart St. John’s, NL

 

PLAYER SELECTION CRITERIA

As the event hosts Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador has been granted 16 spots for the event – 10 forwards, 4 defense and 2 goaltenders

The Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador Female Council Executive Committee will review all applications and select the players who will represent Hockey NL at the event.

Registered participants should currently be playing in the Bantam Division at the AA category or lower.  AAA Bantam players are not eligible. 

 

COSTS / SUPERVISION

There is no registration fee to attend the weekend. Portion of travel for individuals selected will be covered. Accommodations and meals while on-site will be covered by Hockey Canada / Hockey NL. Players will require spending money for meals while travelling, as well any incidental expenses incurred throughout the weekend.

All participants will be under supervision from pre-screened volunteer adults throughout the event. Volunteer staff will be briefed prior to arrival of players on all safety measures required. All flight arrivals will be met at the airport by a Hockey NL representative and guided to the transportation station.
