Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – Beginning Friday, March 13, Hockey NL in partnership with Irving Oil will be presenting the 2015 Irving Oil Bantam AAA provincial play downs in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. The event features the best 13 and 14 year old players in the province and is hosted by the Grand Falls-Windsor Minor Hockey Association.
Five teams (Tri Pen Ice, Western Kings, St. John’s Ice Breakers, Tri Com Thunder and Host- Central Icepack) will compete in a single round robin tournament with the top two teams meeting in a championship game on Sunday at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor. The St. John’s Ice Breakers are the defending champs. The winner of the championship will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2015 Irving Oil Challenge Cup Atlantic Championships being held in Dartmouth, NS from April 9-12, 2015.
The Bantam AAA program is the second step in the AAA program in the province with players developing and potentially graduating to Major Midget, Junior A, and Major Junior in years to come. This season all five teams competed in the inaugural AAA Bantam Provincial League, participating in a 28-game schedule in addition to playoffs and consolation competition.
