Deer Lake, Newfoundland & Labrador (April 1, 2014) – All five teams are now set to compete at the 2014 Atlantic Midget Female Hockey Championship, April 3- 6, at the Hodder Memorial Centre in Deer Lake, Newfoundland & Labrador.

The host team, the Western Warriors, and the Hockey Newfoundland & Labrador representative, the Central Icepak will join qualifiers from the other three Atlantic Provinces, including:

Hockey Nova Scotia – Pro Cresting Penguins
Hockey PEI – King County Kings
Hockey New Brunswick – Moncton Rockets

Tournament Chairperson Michelle Brophy commented “We are proud to host this top level qualifying tournament and look forward to witnessing some great competition over all four days of action. Both the NL teams have been competitive this season and hockey fans will be in for the best minor female hockey in Atlantic Canada and we expect fans will come out to support both teams”.

The tournament gets underway Thursday at 1:00 pm when the puck drops between the Pro Cresting Penguins and the Central Icepak.  The championship game will be played Sunday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m.

The winner of this year’s Atlantic Championship will move on to represent the region at the 2014 ESSO Cup being held in Stoney Creek-Hamilton, Ontario from April 20-26, 2014.  The Atlantic Midget Female Championship is the top minor hockey tournament in the region for female players aged 15, 16 and 17.

For those family and fans unable to make it to Deer Lake, Bell Aliant Community One has partnered with the Atlantic branches and will be webcasting all tournament games which can be viewed at http://www1.bellaliant.net/communityone/.

Tournament passes are still available and can be purchased at Hodder Memorial Centre box office at a cost of $25.00. While game day tickets can be purchased at the Hodder Memorial Centre as well.

Each year, the event serves as a reminder of the high talent level of these young athletes with many of the players moving on to excel in various colleges and university leagues.

4:00pm – King County Kings (PEI) vs. Pro Cresting Penguins (NS)
7:00pm – Central Icepak (NL) vs. Western Warriors (HOST)

Saturday, April 5th
9:00am – Moncton Rockets (NB) vs. Pro Cresting Penguins (NS)
12:00pm – Western Warriors (HOST) vs. King County Kings (PEI)
3:00pm – Moncton Rockets (NB) vs. Central Icepak (NL)
7:00pm – Awards Banquet

Sunday, April 6th
9:00am – Bronze Medal Game
11:30am – Championship Game
