AAA Hitmen bantam

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL- the St. John’s Hitmen edged the Tri Pen Ice 3-2 in the championship game of the 2016 Irving Oil Bantam AAA provincials played in Rocky Harbour Sunday evening.  The St. John’s team will now represent the province and attend the Irving Oil Atlantic Regional Championship being held in Moncton, NB from April 7-10, 2016.

Alex Hickman led the provincial champs in the finals with two goals, while team captain, Brett Budgell tallied the other marker in the close affair.  Shailynn Snow and Braedon Carson responded for the Ice.  Michael Lundrigan was the winning goaltender, while Riley Petten took the loss while facing 45 shots.

Five teams competed in a single round robin prior to the championship game over the weekend. The five teams that competed and that featured the top 13 and 14 year old players in the province were the Hitmen, Ice, Central Ice Pak, Tri Com Thunder and Host team –Western Kings.

The Bantam AAA program is the second step in the AAA program in the province with players developing and potentially graduating to Major Midget, Junior A, and Major Junior in years to come.  Irving Oil has been a proud sponsor of Bantam Hockey in Atlantic Canada for a remarkable twenty-five years and will be delivering their last one this year to mark the 25th anniversary.
