Grand Falls-Windsor- Hockey NL, as their new brand is labeled, will be holding Fall Meetings at the Mount Peyton Hotel in Grand Falls-Windsor on September 14 and 15, 2012.
The sessions are planned to set the direction for the 2012-2013 hockey season for all stakeholders in the province. Each individual council will hold sessions to set dates and sites for provincial championships and events.
In Senior Hockey, a steering committee will meet on the 2015 Allan Cup direction as they discuss tournament guidelines and critical paths, of which will determine a timeframe on when the location and host team will be selected for the 2015 National Senior AAA Hockey Championship which is scheduled to be held in this province. Also, the senior delegates will be facilitated through a special session on the Herder Memorial Championship by well known hockey volunteer Wayne Russell, who is a previous Chair of Hockey Canada.
Female representatives will be organizing for another hectic season, which includes events to celebrate World Girls Hockey Day set for October 13th and in Junior Hockey, teams and leagues will be planning for the upcoming season and discussing promotional plans for the division. The largest group, minor hockey, has a number of key agenda items which entails a town hall session for the members to gain insight and debate key issues of the game. Two priorities that the branch would like to focus their discussions on is providing an option for players to play non-contact hockey and also creating some form of flexible seasons. In hockey development, coaching and player development programs and schedules will be finalized.
Jack Lee, President, Hockey NL feels that these are important sessions for the membership. “This is a time where all divisions of our association have an opportunity to receive information, network and debate issues that impact their operations, remarked Lee. We have a number of new initiatives and have also secured a full time technical staff, and we will need to engage the members to ensure a delivery of programs that meet their needs”.
The meeting kicks off on Friday evening with an open plenary session and will conclude on Saturday with council meetings. A complete agenda for each division is attached.
