Immediate Release

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL- The 2017 Pee Wee AAA Provincial Championship is taking place this coming weekend at the Danny Cleary Community Centre in Harbour Grace, NL.  The championship features the top 12 and 13 year old players in the province representing five teams.

The winner of the tournament will earn the right to represent the province and attend the Bell Aliant Atlantic Regional Championship being held this year in Newfoundland and Labrador hosted by the Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association in CBS from April 6-9, 2017.

The teams will compete in a single round robin followed by a championship round on Sunday. The five teams are the Host team – Tri-Pen Ice, Central Ice Pak, Western Kings, St. John’s Hitmen, and the Tri Com Thunder.  The Thunder are the host team for the Atlantics and therefore have a berth in the regional championships.  The provincial event will also determine who will represent the province in the Atlantic Championship with host Thunder. The  teams competed throughout the season in a 28 game regular season, plus playoffs.

This year marks the 25th anniversary when the host association, the Cee Bees Minor Hockey Association, won the Pee Wee Atlantics when Danny Cleary played on the team and it was coached by Hockey NL Hall of Famer, the late Dick Power.  This anniversary will be recognized during the open ceremonies.
