We’re thrilled to announce that the first game of the WJAHL was a tremendous success! The atmosphere was electric, with fans showing incredible support for this exciting new chapter in women’s hockey.

The WJAHL is a movement dedicated to empowering young female athletes. It offers a platform for elite competition and growth, while also emphasizing the importance of community volunteerism and celebrating hometown heroes. As we travel across the province, we’re committed to giving back to local communities and highlighting those who make a difference on and off the ice.

In the opening game, Team Gill won 3-2 in a thrilling shootout after a tense overtime period.

Game Highlights:

  • 2nd Period:
    • Abigail Woodford from A. Hancock opened the scoring at 14:12, giving Team Gill a 1-0 lead.
  • 3rd Period:
    • Paige Hancock (PP) from O. Sparkes and J. Snow extended Team Gill’s lead to 2-0 at 08:38.
    • Julia Butler from A. Battcock answered back for Team Butler at 11:00, narrowing the score to 1-2.
    • Avery Battcock (Unassisted) tied the game at 13:55, making it 2-2 and sending it into overtime.

After a thrilling overtime, Team Gill clinched the win in the shootout, 3-2.
