The IIHF World Girl’s Ice Hockey Weekend (WGIHW) is an international celebration of the women & girls’ game. Throughout the last decade, Hockey Canada has proven to be a leader by reaching hundreds of thousands of young Canadian girls through this event. The WGIHW creates a national sense of community; anyone in Canada can register to host their own event that works to recruit engage Canadians in the sport of hockey.

In 2024, there were 65 events hosted; with more than 12,000 participants who attended a WGIHW in their respective area. With full granting support from the Hockey Canada Foundation, Hockey Canada was able to provide subsidies to respective Members to cover all of the expenses associated with hosting all events. That is $100,000 invested directly back into girls and women’s hockey at the grassroots level!

NEW – WGIHW PROCESS 

Aligning with other Hockey Canada programs such as First Shift and Pathway to Hockey, the WGIHW program will adopt the same process for application, registration, and event management for the 25-26 season. 

All WGIHW events must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) to ensure a streamlined process.
