Hockey NL announced today that they will be celebrating Grant Thornton Minor Hockey Week in the province from January 9-16, 2016.

The annual mid-season celebration will have a kick-off ceremony at the Robert French Memorial Arena in Conception Bay South this Saturday, January 9, 2016. The host association selected by the sport governing body this year is the Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association.  CBR Minor Hockey is the largest association in the province with over 1000 minor hockey players.

The provincial slogan this season is “Teamwork, Divide the Task… Double the Success”.  Arnold Kelly, of Goose Bay, is the Chair of Minor Hockey for the provincial hockey governing body and he will be in the east coast community this weekend to make the official proclamation this coming Saturday “This year’s slogan was developed to recognize all stakeholders are a part of a team.  Whether you are a player, coach, an administrator, official or volunteer you are an integral part of our team’s success”, said Kelly. “We would also like to acknowledge and thank the organizing committee with the Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association for their absolute commitment to the celebration.”

The Host Association will be presenting a ceremony this Saturday taking place 12:00 p.m. at the arena. Local dignitaries, hockey representatives, and a representative from the title sponsor for the annual Minor Hockey Week, Grant Thornton, will be on hand for the ceremonies.

Grant Thornton has been a partner in Minor Hockey Week for the last three years and are looking forward to the week celebrations. “Grant Thornton is delighted to once again partner with Hockey NL on a program as important as Minor Hockey Week,” says Steve Power, Managing Partner, Newfoundland and Labrador. “As a national accounting firm we have offices throughout the province so it’s gratifying for us to support a tradition that brings our families and communities together”.

The President of Hockey NL, Jack Lee of Goulds says Minor Hockey is important to each community.  “Now that we are about half way through our season, it’s always an exciting time as we strive to offer the players of this province the best possible experience through our sport”, remarked Lee. “All of the events through the season would not be possible without the ongoing caring support of the many volunteers who work daily to deliver programs for our young players.  We encourage our membership to recognize volunteers, especially during Minor Hockey Week in the province”.  Lee also acknowledged the positive partnership they have with Grant Thornton and how these type of partnerships assist with the delivery of programs in the province. “Without the ongoing partnerships like we have with Grant Thornton and other local sponsors throughout our province, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the programs and services needed for our members”, said Lee.
