If you’re looking to become Coach 1 Trained within Hockey NL for the 2025/26 season, please follow the steps below to complete all necessary requirements.


Steps to Become Coach 1 Trained:

  1. Members must have a current Criminal Record Check (CRC), Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) & Hockey NL Screening Application (declaration) on file with Hockey NL
  2. Complete the Hockey Canada Coach 1 Online Course
  3. Complete one or more of the Hockey Canada coach pathway’s following your completion of the Hockey Canada Coach 1 Online Course. Applicable pathways are listed below:
    • U7

    • U9

  4. Attend a 3-Hour In-Class Coach 1 Session

  5. Participate in a Mandatory 1-Hour On-Ice Coach 1 Session


⚠️ Important:

You cannot register with a team unless your Criminal Record Check (CRC), Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) & Hockey NL Screeneing Application (declaration) have been completed and approved. Please ensure these are submitted as early as possible to avoid delays.

Please note: Only those who are Coach 1 Trained are permitted on the ice with U7 and/or U9 players — no other certification is accepted as a substitute.
