CEE BEES AND CARIBOUS TO PLAY FOR SENIOR HOCKEY COVETED TITLE
They were the second and fourth place teams in the league during the regular season and now they will battle for senior hockey supremacy in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The 2013 Herder Memorial Championships brought to you by the Telegram opens Saturday night at the Clarenville Events Centre in Clarenville and will feature the defending Herder champs the Clarenville Caribous and the Eastlink Cee Bee Stars. The Caribous took the Royals out in five games, while the Cee Bees played the upset and edged the first place Cataracts in six games to win their semi-final matches respectively in the Newfoundland and Labrador Senior Hockey League.
The best of seven series will continue on Sunday with a matinee game at the Clarenville Event Centre before the series shifts to the SW Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbor Grace next weekend for games three, four and five, if necessary.
The Cee Bees last played in the Herder finals in 2011 and the Caribous have won the series most recently in 2009, 2010 and 2012. The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented in 1935 by the Evening Telegram Limited in honor of the hockey playing Herder Family, who founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the All Newfoundland Senior Hockey Championship.
As title sponsor for the event, The Telegram is proud to continue supporting senior hockey in the province. “The Telegram and TC Media are proud to be associated and to support this historical trophy and look forward to a great series,” said Leo Gosse, Reader Sales and Marketing Manager for The Telegram.
All games will be streamed live online by Bell Aliant at www.bellaliant.net/herder.
