Hockey NL in partnership with the High Performance Coaching Staff(s) announced the players today  who will be attending the 2014 Provincial Camps at the Gander Community Centre in Gander from August 7-22, 2014.

The program is an identification and development program for the top athletes in the province in a number of age divisions for both male and female players. Over 250 players will participate in the provincial program over the course of fifteen days. The players were selected from a number of spring identification camps that were held over the last two weekends.

Each provincial camp will have four and half days of intense training, with daily games scheduled in order for the coaching staff to evaluate players. During the program players will have a number of off-ice sessions focusing on fitness, nutrition, team systems, hockey opportunities and other interesting topics. The Coaching staff will be tasked to select the top twenty players for Female U15/U18 and Male U14/U15, these four teams will represent the branch jersey at the annual Atlantic Challenge Cup (ACC) scheduled for Moncton, NB from October 10-13, 2014. This event is a best on best competition among the four Atlantic Provinces.

“The provincial summer camp exposes our players to a high level of competition both on and off the ice”, stated Ken Chafe, Development Chair Hockey NL “Our goal is to give these players the tools to succeed and develop, as they move throughout their young hockey careers.  The High Performance Program is also a beneficial tool for our coaches and support staff, they become exposed to an elite level of competition, which helps develop their skills and in turn we see the benefits as they continue on to assist other coaches and players in our province”.

The Male U16 team will participate in a separate event from the ACC (date/location to be determined), the Male U16 team will also compete in the 2015 QMJHL Gatorade Excellence Challenge, this event will take place post Canada Winter Games.
