ST. JOHN’S, NL—Minor Hockey Chair Arnold Kelly go under the clippers at the kickoff of the 2014 Grant Thornton Minor Hockey Week at the Stephenville Dome on January 11.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported my Shave for the Brave campaign so far. I am thrilled to be able to bring awareness to the cause and help young adults deal with cancer,” said Kelly.

“We’re pumped to be invited to share the purpose of the Shave for the Brave during the opening ceremonies,” said Geoff Eaton, executive director of Young Adult Cancer Canada.

“We’ve always had strong support from the west coast, and it’s amazing to be able to take it to the next level by bringing the Shave for the Brave to this tournament.”

Hockey NL has set a target of 500 heads for the 2014 Shave for the Brave season, and they’ll need just 487 more come Sunday when at least 12 minor hockey players will copy Kelly’s new look at 1 p.m. Other parents, players, and community members are invited to join.

Stephenville Minor Hockey Vice-President Ken Mills says as the father of two boys, and as the coach of many other young people, he wanted to support something that could affect them in the future.

“Hockey NL has been a big supporter of the Shave for the Brave,” said Mills “I brought it to the team and most of them agreed to do it along with me, so we’re doing it as a team.”

All media are invited to attend.
