Hockey NL visits Labrador City for a series of on and off-ice clinics
Hockey NL teamed up with Labrador West Minor Hockey Association to host a series of clinics for players, coaches and officials. On Friday, November 21st HNL met with Labrador West MHA executives & parents.
The meeting was to discuss concerns that members had within their association, some of the items discussed were player/coach development and the issue of travel for members within Labrador. HNL President Jack Lee was excited about the discussion and the opportunity to visit with members in the LBWMHA “We enjoyed some great dialogue in our meeting with executive members and parents” stated Lee, “Everyone in the room has one goal, making the game a positive experience for all those involved”.
Saturday, November 22nd started off with an in-class coaches session, open to all coaches. The session was led by HNL Mentorship Director Charlie Quick, delegates were given a drill resource package as well. Following the in-class session, coaches went on the ice to view & learn new skills, as the session concentrated on the techniques of skating. Officials in the area also enjoyed a in-class and on-ice session led by HNL Referee in Chief Don Kelly.
The afternoon was time for the players to hit the ice, first the novice A/B group, followed by Novice C and two Atom groups finished off the day. Each group enjoyed an off-ice session with a pizza party. On-ice sessions were led by HNL Technical Director Paul Dagg, Mentorship Director Charlie Quick, HNL Development Chair Ken Chafe and NCCP Director (Labrador Rep) Garry Dove. “We wanted to show everyone involved parents, coaches and players different ways to teach and learn a skill, but at the same time keeping it fun for everyone” stated Paul Dagg, HNL TD
