HC combineHockey Canada in partnership with Hockey NL presented the Sport Chek/Hockey Canada Combine June 15 and 16 at the Glacier Arena in Mount Pearl.

65 Female and Male players participated in the combine throughout the weekend.  The event began Saturday with on-ice testing, the players were put through a number of stations; sprint, agility and endurance.  Players also received a second on-ice session skills session, which was led by Greg Schell (Toronto Maple Leafs, Youth Development).

Bryan Harris delivered presentations to each group on the importance of off-ice training, sleep and nutrition.  Paul Dagg (Hockey NL, Technical Director), spoke to each group about Hockey Canada/HNL Branch programs, mental preparation, respect and scouting of players.

On Sunday, Nike staff members along with local coaches/players delivered the off-ice sessions.   Players participated in 5 different stations; agility run, two-foot jump, ball throw, 20M sprint and finished off with the Yo-Yo test  (similar to the beep test, designed for hockey training).

Before players left on Sunday afternoon, Greg Schell with the Toronto Maple Leafs left each group with a positive message and each player received a ‘report card’ with scores from every station they completed both on and off the ice.   Players can compare their scores from the national Hockey Canada/Sport Chek combine database.  For their participation each player took home a Hockey Canada jersey, Nike dri-fit shirt and shorts.
