After leaving school, Stan Breen continued his near 20-year hockey career mostly with the Feildian Athletic Association in the junior and senior leagues. He was also an outstanding member of St. John’s junior and senior all-star teams for many years. Consistently a top scorer, he was an explosive player with great speed and play-making ability.

Stan Breen won the scoring championship of the St. John’s Junior League in 1957. In 1960, he won the St. John’s Senior League scoring championship, a feat he again accomplished in 1961. He was voted the Most Valuable Player for the St. John’s Senior League in 1962. In 1963, he was a runner up for the Athlete of the Year Award in St. John’s. In 1965, when he was supposed to be slowing down, he set a new local league record for the most assists in one season. In one game that season, he scored 10 goals and had four assists.

Stan Breen was a determined and competitive player who had a “refuse to die spirit”. In 1965, he was praised by the local media “as the most outstanding individuals to play hockey in St. John’s since the Stadium opened in 1954”. It was written: “He is one of the swiftest men on blades. He was the heartbeat and team captain of the Feildians senior hockey team.”

In addition to hockey, Stan Breen played baseball and soccer and had a fine track and field career.
