The IIHF World Girl’s Ice Hockey Weekend (WGIHW) is an international celebration of the women & girls’ game. Throughout the last decade, Hockey Canada has proven to be a leader by reaching hundreds of thousands of young Canadian girls through this event. The WGIHW creates a national sense of community; anyone in Canada can register to host their own event that works to recruit engage Canadians in the sport of hockey.

The selected hosts will have the ability to make the event uniquely their own and showcase girls and women’s hockey in their region during a week/weekend in October or November.

To apply, hosts must be a Hockey Canada sanctioned local hockey association that is planning an event for women and girls’ geared towards: Recruitment, Celebration, Visibility and Retention.

Successful applicants will receive financial reimbursement to offset the costs associated with putting on their event.

Minor Hockey Associations looking to host an event during this weekend are asked to complete the application form (2024 WGIHW_Application) and return it to the Hockey NL Branch Office.

Deadline for submission is September 1, 2024.
