Hockey NL relies on qualified officials to ensure games are played safely and fairly across the province. Please review the certification requirements, rulebooks, and policies below to stay current for the 2026-27 season.
All officials are required to hold current certification through the Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP), and to follow the officiating pathway and points of focus set out by Hockey Canada and Hockey NL.

All officials must also be familiar with Rule 11 — Maltreatment, and with the requirements for officiating non-sanctioned games.
All certifications must be valid prior to participating in any Hockey NL event. Records are tracked through Hockey Canada’s HCR 3.0 registry system, and individuals are responsible for maintaining and updating their certifications each season.
