Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – Beginning Friday, February 21st, Hockey NL in partnership with Irving Oil will be presenting the 2014 Irving Oil Bantam AAA provincial play downs in Rocky Harbour, NL. The event features the best 13 and 14 year old players in the province and is hosted by the Gros Morne Minor Hockey Association.
Five teams (Tri Pen Ice, Central Icepack, St. John’s Ice Breakers, Tri Com Thunder and Host- Western) will compete in a single round robin tournament with the top two teams meeting in a championship game on Sunday at the Gros Morne Complex in Rocky Harbour. The St. John’s Ice Breakers are the defending champs. The winner of the championship will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2014 Irving Oil Challenge Cup Atlantic Championships being held this year by the Tri-Com Thunder in Mount Pearl, NL from April 3-6, 2014.
Three warm-up tournaments have been played and exposed a very competitive group for this year’s provincial championships.
The Bantam AAA program is a development system for the provincial Major Midget League which features a provincial league for the top 15, 16 and 17 year olds who are vying for spots on Quebec Major Junior Clubs in the future. The program will be expanded to a provincial league for the 2014-2015 season.
Irving Oil has been a proud sponsor of Bantam Hockey in Atlantic Canada for twenty-three years and we look forward to their continued support in the future.
