Avalon Junior Capitals got a shootout win in their first game in the 2014 Don Johnson Memorial Cup being played in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia.  The NL representative edged the home team Strait Pirates 5-4.

Mike Cole led the St. John’s Junior Hockey League Champs with 2 goals while Alex Powell and Bobby Squires added singles.  Cole also got the shootout winning marker.

Doug Pippy got the win between the pipes for the Capitals facing 40 shots.

The Avalon team will now play game two today against Prince Edward Island.
