BREAKERS CAPTURE THEIR 7TH HERDER

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – The Southern Shore Breakers defeated the Deer Lake Red Wings by a score of 6 to 2 on Sunday to claim the Herder Memorial Championship. The Breakers won the best of seven series four games to one to claim their franchises 7th title.
Stephen Oates of the Breakers received the Cliff Gorman Memorial Award as the series Most Valuable Player.
The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented by Ralph Herder of the Evening Telegram Limited in 1935 as a memorial of his five brothers Arthur, Hubert, William, Douglas, and Gus. Ralph, his youngest brother Jim, and Ralph’s son Stephen were later named to the trophy. The brother’s father, William James Herder, founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the Provincial Senior Hockey Championship.
