The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts won the opening game of the 2014 Herder Memorial Championships brought to you by The Telegram against the Clarenville Caribous on Saturday night by a score of 5-1.
 
Rob Hennigar lead the winning team with two goals while singles came from Brandon Street, Andrew Pearcey and Andrew Brennan (empty net)
 
Chad Earle was the long goal scorer for the Caribous.
 
AJ Whiffin took the win in net for the Cataracts while Jason Churchill suffered the loss.
 
Game 2 is set for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor.
 
Hockey NL presented a number of awards prior to game one.
