Clarenville, NL-  The Eastlink Cee Bee Stars handedly  beat the Clarenville Carious in game two of the  2013 Herder Memorial Championship brought to you by the Telegram this afternoon  at the Clarenville Event Centre by a score of 5-1.  The Cee Bees now take a 2-0 series lead in the best of seven affair.

 

Chris Sparkes lead the Cee Bees with two goals in the matinee game. 

 

Colin Feehan opened the scoring a nifty one on one play about eight minutes into the first period with an assist to Donnie Gosse.

 

The Caribous managed to draw even six minutes later scoring on the power play when Blake Gallagher scored from Brandon Roach and Andrew Sweetland.  But before the first period came to an end Sparkes scored on a two man advantage to put the Cee Bees up by one at the first intermission

 

Chris Hulit and Sparkes, with his second of the night, scored in the second period to give the Cee Bees a commanding 4-1 lead heading in the third period.

 

Robert Slaney scored his third goal of the series six minutes into third period to make the score 5-1

 

Mark Yetman made 34 saves in the win for the Cee Bees while Jason Churchill took the loss.

 
Game three is set for Friday March 15 at 8:00 pm. at the SW Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbor Grace next weekend.

Hockey NL presented a number of perpetual regular season individual awards prior to the start of game two.

The Presidents Goaltender Award for the Goaltender with Best Goals Against Average:

S.E. Tuma Memorial Award for the Top Scorer
