Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – Congratulations to Maggie Connors on receiving the Isobel Gathorne-Hardy Award which was presented to her during the 2019 Esso Cup last month in Sudbury.
Maggie’s excellence as a forward has earned her many individual awards, big wins on a national and international stage, and, most recently, an Ivy League Championship with the Princeton Tigers.
The 18-year-old product of the Avalon Minor Hockey Association, is also extremely impressive when she is not suiting up for a game. Even though Maggie is a full-time student-athlete, she finds time in her hectic schedule to help younger hockey players develop their skills. Maggie did that while attending Shattuck’s St. Mary’s, and she has kept it up in Princeton. Maggie also motivates younger players with speeches about the importance of working hard and being grateful for all the people who help you along the way.
Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador president Jack Lee said “The way Maggie carries herself both on and off the ice has helped grow the female game in the province over the past few years”.
Maggie is also a passionate advocate for other causes. She has volunteered a nursing home, helped repair and clean a soup kitchen, and has built furniture for women’s and children’s groups.
Her stellar play and determination to be the best role model she can make her an excellent recipient of the Isobel Gathorne-Hardy Award.
Congratulations Maggie!
