Eric Dawe owns a record of service to hockey that covers 45 years, starting in 1956 when he joined the Gander Hockey Association and lasting until today as he continues to serve as a member of the provincial appeals committee.
He was a recognized builder of hockey at the provincial level and especially in Gander, where he was association president for six years and played a major role in the success that teams from that community achieved.
In 1969, Eric Dawe became provincial minor chair as vice-president of the Newfoundland Amateur Hockey Association. He moved to senior hockey chair in 1972 and operated within that position for 12 years, always working and contributing to the improvement and expansion of hockey at the provincial and local levels. During his chairmanship, provincial senior hockey was extremely strong and extremely popular. In both minor and senior vice-president capacities, he represented the province extremely well at national meetings.
Respected for his “straight-from-the-shoulder” approach and his devotion to hockey, Eric Dawe moved onto the vital appeals committee in 1989 and has played a part in some very important decisions regarding teams and individual decisions.
His valuable service to hockey was recognized in 1996 when he was presented with the Newfoundland Amateur Hockey Association Gold Stick Award.
