GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR CATARACTS TAKE HOME THE HERDER MEMORIAL TROPHY

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – The Grand Falls- Windsor Cataracts won their third straight and fourteenth Herder Memorial Championship brought to you by The Telegram Friday night in Torbay after a 10-1 victory over the St. John’s Toyota Plaza Capitals to take the best of five series three straight games.
Rodi Short fired four goals for the Central West Champs, fellow defenceman and teammate Luke Gallant had two markers. Steve Yetman, Greg Hoffe, Kyle McGuirk and Danny Wicks added singles. Jeremy Nicholas replied for the Caps.
A.J Whiffen was the winning goaltender, while Kyle Downer took the loss in net for the Caps.
Gallant was awarded the Cliff Gorman Memorial Trophy as the series Most Valuable Player.
The Herder Memorial Trophy was first presented by the Evening Telegram Limited in honor of the hockey playing Herder Family, who founded the Evening Telegram in 1879. The trophy is emblematic of the All Newfoundland Senior Hockey Championship.
