HOCKEY CANADA FOUNDATION LAUNCHES PAT QUINN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Fund to benefit Canadian post-graduate student-athletes pursuing professional designations
VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Hockey Canada Foundation (HCF) has launched the Pat Quinn Scholarship Fund to honour the long-time coach and Team Canada legend.
The fund will provide assistance to student-athletes in pursuit of a post-graduate professional designation. Applications are open to Canadian citizens from March 17 to June 30 of each calendar year. Successful recipients will be notified in August of each calendar year.
Quinn, who passed away in November 2014, left his mark on Hockey Canada; his decorated international résumé included gold medals at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, 2008 IIHF World U18 Championship and 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, and a World Cup of Hockey title in 2004.
“The ability to provide an opportunity to student-athletes in this nature is exactly how Pat approached his coaching and management roles,” said Doug Goss, chair of the Hockey Canada Foundation. “His dedication to teaching those around him about life and hockey was at the heart of why Pat was so successful, and the Hockey Canada Foundation is proud to offer this avenue to continue his legacy.”
“Dad was always an advocate of schooling to ensure he, and others, had a platform to succeed when hockey careers came to an end,” added Quinn’s daughter Kalli. “It took him more than 10 years to obtain his undergraduate degree in the summer when playing professional hockey before he went back to school at the age of 39 to obtain his law degree.”
For Jim Treliving, past chair and a current HCF board member, the scholarship fund was “consistent with the Foundation’s focus of providing educational opportunities to athletes for generations to come.”

LA FONDATION HOCKEY CANADA LANCE LE FONDS DE LA BOURSE D’ÉTUDES PAT-QUINN
Le fonds servira aux élèves-athlètes qui cherchent à obtenir un titre professionnel
VANCOUVER, C.-B. – La Fondation Hockey Canada (FHC) a lancé le Fonds de la bourse d’études Pat-Quinn en hommage à l’entraîneur de longue date et légende d’Équipe Canada.
Le fonds aidera les élèves-athlètes à obtenir un titre professionnel d’études supérieures. Les demandes sont ouvertes aux citoyens canadiens du 17 mars au 30 juin de chaque année civile. Les récipiendaires retenus seront avisés au mois d’août de chaque année civile.
Quinn, qui est décédé en novembre 2014, a laissé son empreinte sur Hockey Canada; sa feuille de route reluisante sur la scène internationale comprend des médailles d’or aux Jeux olympiques d’hiver de 2002, au Championnat mondial des M18 2008 de l’IIHF et au Championnat mondial junior 2009 de l’IIHF ainsi qu’un titre de la Coupe du monde de hockey en 2004.
« La possibilité d’offrir une occasion de cette nature aux élèves-athlètes représente exactement la façon dont Pat approchait son rôle d’entraîneur et de gestionnaire », a exprimé Doug Goss, président du conseil d’administration de la Fondation Hockey Canada. « Son dévouement à enseigner des choses aux gens autour de lui à propos de la vie et du hockey a été au cœur du succès de Pat et la Fondation Hockey Canada est fière d’offrir cette avenue afin de poursuivre son legs. »
« Mon père a toujours fait la promotion de l’école pour s’assurer que lui et les autres aient ce qu’il faut pour avoir du succès après leur carrière au hockey », a ajouté la fille de Quinn, Kalli. « Il lui a fallu plus de dix ans avant d’obtenir un diplôme de premier cycle durant l’été lorsqu’il était un joueur professionnel de hockey avant de retourner à l’école à l’âge de 39 ans pour obtenir son diplôme en droit. »
Pour Jim Treliving, président sortant et membre actuel du conseil d’administration de la FHC, le fonds de la bourse d’études « s’harmonise avec le point de mire de la Fondation qui vise à offrir des possibilités en matière d’éducation aux athlètes pour des générations à venir. »
