More information QMJHL Excellence Challenge:
The QMJHL Excellence Challenge has replaced the QMJHL CSR for the past five seasons, and will be viewed by QMJHL scouts as a signature event leading up to the 2018 Draft. The event will also be used as a gateway into Hockey Canada’s National Under 17 program. Hockey Canada scouting staff will be on site to scout players for the National U17 summer camp. The Under 17 program invites 108 players to a July summer camp, at the home of Hockey Canada in Calgary. From the summer camp 66 players will be selected to form 3 National teams that will compete at the World Under 17 Challenge in the fall of 2018.
The 2017 Team NL Male Under 16 defeated Nova Scotia in the Bronze Medal game. Three players from the 2017 team were invited to Hockey Canada’s Under 17 National camp, from the camp all three players were selected to play for Team Canada at the World Under 17 Hockey Championships (Brett Budgell, Dawson Mercer and Alex Newhook).
