Hockey NL and Grant Thornton have announced a three-year partnership that will see Grant Thornton receive title sponsorship and naming rights for the annual Minor Hockey Week in the province.

It will be known as “Grant Thornton Minor Hockey Week” beginning in 2014.  Minor Hockey Week has been a mainstay in this province for decades and is held the third week of January each year. It’s a time to recognize the importance of minor hockey in all the communities in the province and to identify key volunteers in these areas. At one time, it was a national celebration but when Hockey Canada removed this from their events a few years back, Hockey NL continued to ensure this recognition is held annually.  “Grant Thornton is proud to be associated with the great tradition of Minor Hockey Week”, says Steve Power, Managing Partner, Newfoundland and Labrador. “We work with businesses and individuals all across the province so we appreciate how a program like Minor Hockey Week can unite communities and provide important economic benefits. We’re excited to be a part of such a worthwhile grassroots initiative and to support the youth of our province.”

Hockey NL President Jack Lee feels this partnership reinforces how important support from sponsors is to the provincial association.

“The sponsorship will bring great value to our annual minor hockey week celebrations and keeps us in line with our new marketing strategy. We are quite pleased with the relationship we had with Grant Thornton in the past and we are really eager about this partnership and how we can build an even better celebration of minor hockey week in our province annually”, said Lee.

More information on the 2014 Kick Off and celebrations of the Grant Thornton Minor Hockey Week will be forthcoming as the provincial governing body generates their calendar of events for the 2013-2014 season over the coming months.
