Hockey NL Announces 2016 Male Under 16 Roster
HOCKEY NL ANNOUNCES MALE UNDER 16 ROSTER – TEAM TO COMPETE AT QMJHL EXCELLENCE CHALLENGE
Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador announces the official Male Under 16 roster. The Male U16 team will compete at the (QMJHL) Quebec Major Junior League Excellence Challenge in Blainville-Brosand, QC. Teams will compete for the QMJHL Gold Cup, players will begin the week by participating in the Under Armour Combine (on/off-ice testing) on Wednesday, April 27th. Games will begin on Thursday, April 28th and conclude on Sunday, May 1st.
The following teams will be participating in the QMJHL Excellence Challenge:
- Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador
- Hockey New Brunswick
- Hockey Nova Scotia
- Hockey PEI
- Quebec White
- Quebec Blue
The selection of the Male Under 16 team began last April with the (HPP) 2015 High Performance spring identification camps. From the spring camps, 46 players were selected to attend the HPP Provincial summer camp in Gander, from Gander players were scouted throughout the 2015-16 Major Midget hockey season. Evaluations concluded this past weekend at the final selection camp.
Jason King added to 2016 Male U16 Coaching Staff:
Hockey NL would like to announce the addition of Jason King to the 2016 Male Under 16 coaching staff. Jason will assume the role of associate coach, King who is currently Director of Hockey Operations with the American Hockey League St. John’s IceCaps. Jason brings a wealth of pro hockey experience as both a player and coach, having been drafted by the Vancouver Canucks, spent time in the QMJHL,AHL, NHL and European pro leagues.
