Hornell Elected Chair of Hockey Canada
Jim Hornell, native of Newfoundland and Labrador, was elected Chair of the Board for Hockey Canada on May 25, 2013 during Hockey Canada’s Annual General Meeting. Hornell, is now the fourth person from the Branch who has held the top post for this important and large organization. The late Don Johnson, Brian Wakelin and Wayne Russell were previous leaders of Hockey Canada.
Jim started his involvement with the Initiation Program while coaching his children in the Grand Falls-Windsor Minor Hockey Association. He later became the provincial IP Coordinator and Hockey Development Committee Chair. Jim served on the national Hockey Development Council for many years as a Director and Chair, continuing to move up the ranks in the national association holding the position of Executive Vice Chair the last two years.
Hornell was born in Buchan’s, as his later Hall of Fame father, Jim Hornell Sr, was an import playing Senior Hockey for the Miners.
Hockey NL is so proud of Jim on this accomplishment and extends a sincere congratulations to “our own Jim Hornell, Hockey Canada Chair of the Board.”
