JETS WIN TOURNAMENT OPENER
The Stephenville Jets trounced the Bishop’s Falls Express 12 – 8 in the first game of the 2013 Veitch Memorial Championships series being played in Stephenville on Thursday night.
Adam Green led the Jets team with 5 goals in the win against the CWJHL champions. Also scoring for the Jets were Josh White and Dylan Noseworthy with 2 goals each and adding singles were Zach Goudie, Garrett Bennett and Brandon O’Neil. Scoring for the Express was Stephen Best with 4 goals, Deon Young with 2 and Jared King and Jordan Osmond with singles.
Green was awarded player of the game for the Host Junior Jets and Stephen Best received player of the game honors for the Central team.
Game 2 of the Veitch Memorial Tournament is set for tonight when the Express will play their second game of the tournament against the Hickman Automotive Group Junior Caps, winners of the SJJHL.

1st. and 2nd Place Teams meet in the Championship Game
The Veitch Memorial Trophy was first played for in 1953 in which Grand Falls were awarded the trophy. The trophy was presented by the Buchan’s Social and Athletic Club in memory of John, Cyril and Phillip Veitch, for perpetual competition. This trophy is to be awarded to the provincial championship team in the highest category of junior. The trophy has been up for competition over 60 years and has been played 46 times.
