In March 2025, Hockey NL Nominations Committee is responsible to provide a slate of eleven (11) candidates to the membership for consideration for a two-year term (June 25- June 27).

The Hockey NL Board provides strategy, financial oversight, and fiduciary duties to Hockey NL and our membership. The Board of Directors develops and oversees strategic direction, with the members as a top priority. The Board also initiates and reviews policies, engages in evaluation of the organization, and works with membership to enhance Hockey NL governance capacity. Hockey NL Director is a volunteer position without remuneration.

To be eligible to serve as a Director, an individual must:

  1. Be nineteen (19) years of age or older
  2. Not have been found to be mentally incompetent by a court in Canada or elsewhere
  3. Have the power under law to contract
  4. Not have the status of bankrupt
  5. Not be a director or officer of any Association, League or Team, or a shareholder of a Team, within Hockey NL.

The search to present a slate of eleven 11 directors is led by the Nominations Committee, which is an independent group of volunteers. They are responsible for attracting and assessing qualified, skilled candidates for election who are capable and committed to providing effective policy governance and leadership. They are responsible for ensuring diversity within the slate of candidates.

Candidates should be committed to the betterment of our game and to Hockey NL’s mission statement to foster a safe, fun and inclusive hockey experience. Candidates will be expected to commit to (3) three in-person directors meeting per annum and (7) seven to (8) eight two-hour virtual directors meeting per annum. Directors may also be asked to serve on at least one standing committee, meeting quarterly or less.

All directors are expected to exhibit the following personal attributes:

  1. Engagement & Time – able to commit the energy and required time.
  2. Fiduciary Mindset – ability to always put our game & members’ interests first and foremost, personal interests aside.
  3. Collaborative – strong & respectful team player; consensus builder working towards solutions focused on Hockey NL’s best interests
