For Immediate Release
Grand Falls-Windsor, NL- Hockey NL announced today that the annual Minor Hockey Week celebration in the province will take place from January 16-23, 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic there will be no official Kick Off event this year. However, the provincial association will be proclaiming Minor Hockey Week this year. Newfoundland and Labrador is one of a few provinces and territories in Canada that have been fortunate to be able to have hockey with limited interpretations this season.
The provincial slogan this season is “One Team; One Dream”. Arnold Kelly, of Goose Bay, is the Chair of Minor Hockey for the provincial hockey governing body and suggests the slogan is extra special this year. “Strength in numbers with a common goal to have the best interest of the team is relevant this year with the current pandemic we are facing in our sport and the success we have had to date” said Kelly.
Kelly’s message is important to highlight with the accomplishment the association has had this year, with volunteers, parents, coaches and players all coming together to have one dream of playing hockey this year in a safe and healthy manner, and for developing and following new return to hockey guidelines. This approach has had a significant impact on the high participation numbers this season.
Hockey NL and Public Health has restricted participation this season within the provincial health authority region, and the provincial association is asking for its teams and members to help the celebration by sharing stories and events during the week via hashtag #onedreamoneteam and tagging @HkyNL on Twitter. Throughout the entire week our goal is to flood our social media with the celebration of this year’s minor hockey week.
Please note any posts not following COVID-19 and masks rules and regulations set out by Public Health and the Hockey NL RTH Policy will not be shared by Hockey NL.
Hockey NL is the governing body of amateur hockey in the province, promoting, supervising and regulating competition in all recognized categories. The association currently has 46 active minor hockey associations and more than 13,000 (over 2,000 female) registered players, coaches, managers and game officials.
