NLU18 Major Hockey League Seeking Volunteer Treasurer
This is a volunteer position with the Executive of the Newfoundland and Labrador U18 Major Hockey League (NLU18MHL) and will be responsible for overseeing the fiscal management and financial health of the League. This includes budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and ensuring compliance with all provincial regulations as well as those of the governing body, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador (if relevant). The Treasurer collaborates closely with other members of the Executive and Governors to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective financial stewardship.
Financial Management & Oversight:
- Manage the organization’s finances, including income, expenses, and cash flow.
- Develop and monitor budgets in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions.
- Prepare quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Board of Directors
- Oversee bank reconciliations, invoices, and expense tracking.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in fiscal management, budgeting, or accounting.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of accounting software and financial reporting tools
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Integrity and transparency in managing finances and managing sensitive information.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience as a treasurer or finance officer in a similar not-for-profit organization.
- Superior knowledge of minor hockey within Atlantic Canada at the elite AAA level
Time Commitment:
- Regular attendance at monthly Executive Meetings.
- Increased hours during budget preparation, quarterly reports, and year-end reporting.
- Approximately 10–15 hours/month depending on season stage and responsibilities.
