Passing of the Late Claude Anstey
It is with great sadness that Hockey NL announces the passing of the late Claude Anstey. Claude passed away last night at the long term care home in Corner Brook at the age of 91.
Claude served as President for 16 years, from 1970 to 1986. In addition to President, he filled the positions of Western, Junior and Senior vice-Presidents prior to serving as Past President.
During his lifetime, he was awarded the NAHA Gold Stick Award, the NAHA Outstanding Service Award and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Outstanding Award.
An example of his great love for hockey and of his willingness to work long and hard for its betterment is demonstrated by the manner in which he headed the effort to obtain and establish a Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Hall of Fame.
