The 2016 St. John’s Jr. Hockey League Champions, the MoorFrost CBN Jr. Stars defeated the host Roebothan McKay & Marshall Avalon Capitals 5-3 during the opening game of the Don Johnson Memorial Cup.

Capitals had a 1-0 lead after the first; the Stars scored 4 goals in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Capitals netted two quick goals in the third but the Stars pushed on to a 5-3 victory.
