From St. John’s, to provincial, to national, to international hockey games, Robert (Bob) Cole’s great natural talent and exceptional ability has provided hockey fans with tremendous coverage on radio and television.

From his start with St. John’s radio station VOCM in 1954 to his continuing appearances on national CBC television’s Hockey Night in Canada, Cole has demonstrated his great presentation of hockey coverage. He has earned a reputation as one of the finest hockey play-by-play announcers in the world, calling a wide range of top-level competition from the Olympics to Canada Cup.

Utilizing his detailed knowledge of the game, his amazing reaction to hundreds of players and his unbelievable pronunciation of the most difficult names, Bob Cole has provided more than 40 years of enjoyment and excitement for hockey fans everywhere. Calling play for St. John’s league games, Newfoundland senior games, the National Hockey League or World Cup games, Cole is at his best and that is indeed the best.

In addition to his great announcing ability, Cole was a St. John’s hockey all-star in provincial senior play. He also stood out in soccer, baseball, rowing and competed in national curling championships. He was inducted into the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999 and into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
