The Avalon Sled Dogs season is about to get underway and they are currently accepting new players. No sledge hockey experience required and sledge equipment will be provided.  The Sled Dogs are also actively recruiting for a new goalie to join the club (previous goalie experience a bonus)!  Sledge Hockey (now called Para Hockey) was originally developed decades ago for players with disabilities, but in recent years more and more able-bodied players are coming out to play this exciting sport!  And who wouldn’t love to come out and skate and learn with one of the best Para Hockey players in the World – our very own Liam Hickey!

“Para hockey has opened many doors for me over my athletic career. Between meeting new people, and travelling all over the world, it has been a life changing experience. Without the support of the Avalon Sled Dogs and the people that play in the program I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what I have today. The Avalon Sled Dogs are a very welcoming group of people and we would love to have more people join the family!”

– Liam Hickey Team Canada

Our current club includes a diverse group of male and female players of all ages, with able-bodied and players with disabilities all enjoying a weekly session that’s a good work-out and a ton of fun!  Come on out and give it a try…you’ll be glad you did!  Here’s a quote from one of our newest able-bodied players!

“My first real experience with Para hockey was when Hockey NL hosted the 2019 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Championship in Paradise. Getting to meet Liam and the rest of the team they convinced me to try it out. The Avalon Sled Dogs welcomed me with open arms and made me part of their team ever since. The fun and new exciting challenge of the game along with a great group makes me look forward to our sessions every Saturday.”
