Gold Medal Game

The North West Irving Oil Bulls claimed the 2013 Irving Oil Challenge Cup Atlantic Bantam AAA Championship with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Halifax Irving Oil ACCEL Hawks,
The Hawks scored the only goal of the first period off the stick of Morgan Barron, assisted by Luke Spicer and Ian Drysdale. Period 2 saw plenty of action at both ends of ice. The Bulls tied the game early in the second on a power play goal by tournament leading scorer Mika Cyr. The Hawks responded 4 minutes later with a shorthanded effort by Jack Berrigan to go ahead 2-1. Once again the Bulls responded with another power play from tournament top forward Roch Theriault. The teams headed to the 2nd intermission tied 2-2. Both teams battled hard for the winning goal in the third period but were unable to beat either goaltender as the Bulls Ben Thornton and the Hawks Reilly Pickard stood tall. The two teams headed to overtime knotted at 2. It was a quick finish as Casey Fox scored 48 seconds in off a rebound in front that sent the Bulls fans into a wild frenzy.
Bronze Medal Game
10:00 am St John’s Irving Oil Ice Breakers (HNL) 4 vs Kings County Irving Oil Kings (HOST) 1 FINAL
Starting Goalies – HNL # 33 MacKenzie Janes – HOST # 33 Jed Walsh
Players of the Game – HNL # 5 Daniel Rice – HOST # 21 Hunter McIntyre
The St John’s Irving Oil Ice Breakers from Hockey NL defeated the Host Kings County Irving Oil Kings 4-1 to claim the Bronze Medal. Dylan Guy got the Ice Breakers on the board 4 minutes into the opening frame on a bank shot from below the goal line off starting goalie Jed Walsh. Joel Bishop followed up with a shorthanded maker to send the Ice Breakers into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. The Ice Breakers stretched their lead to 4-0 in the second with goals from Guy and Daniel Rice. Noah Laybolt of the host Kings took over in goal after the 4th Ice Breakers goal. The Kings responded late in the 2nd period on a goal by Dallas Farrell to cut the lead to 4-1 heading into the 2nd intermission. That is all the scoring the game would see as both goalies shut the door in the 3rd period.
