Zane Forbes owns a 12-year provincial senior hockey career that is overflowing with success, including four times a member of a team that won the Herder Memorial Trophy. He is the only player to twice be selected as Most Valuable Player in provincial senior hockey. He started his career by winning the Rookie of the Year award for 1977-78 when he had 84 points from 42 goals and 42 assists for the Gander Flyers.

Forbes played 373 games with the St. John’s Capitals, Stephenville Jets and St. John’s Blue Caps as well as Gander. One of the finest offensive players to perform within senior hockey, he finished his career with 732 points from 324 goals and 408 assists. His points total was second all-time only to Frank (Danky) Dorrington of Corner Brook.

Always a team player, Forbes earned a reputation for leadership both on and off the ice, and played a major role in the Herder victories of Gander in 1980, Stephenville in 1984, and St. John’s Capitals in 1987 and 1990.

In addition to hockey, Forbes was successful as an oarsman in the Royal St. John’s Regatta for many years and as a senior ‘A’ softball player.
