Harold Stanley established himself as one of the finest defencemen the province has ever produced during a 12-year senior hockey career that was filled with exceptional play on the ice, and role-model conduct off the ice. He was what hockey, at all levels, is expected to be.

His play on the blueline was a major part of the provincial senior hockey titles and Herder Memorial Trophies won by the Conception Bay CeeBees in 1965 and the Grand Falls Cataracts in 1971 and 1972. Playing against some of the best athletes the province has ever seen, he more than held his own. Stanley was extremely effective defensively and often played 40 or more minutes in a single game.

He played 318 senior hockey games, scoring 31 goals and earning 199 assists for 230 points, which is very impressive for a defenceman who was responsible continually for preventing opponents from scoring. He was a steady, rock-solid defenceman who could check well, break up plays and was very adept at getting the puck out of his own zone.
