Jack Faulkner brought a great deal of desire as well as exceptional talent and skill to the game of hockey. Tenacious in the corners and along the boards, his quickness was well supported by a desire to excel and an impressive general knowledge of the game. His contributions to any team with which he played was always important, and his ability to pass on his hockey knowledge was demonstrated when he coached the Gander Flyers to their second Herder Memorial Trophy in 1980.
The youngest of the five Faulkner Brothers, Jack Faulkner enjoyed a great deal of success in professional hockey with the San Diego Gulls and the Johnstown Jets of the Western Hockey League during the 1966 to 1968 seasons. He was a valuable asset to both clubs.
From 1959 to 1966, he played with the Conception Bay CeeBees and was a member of four provincial championship clubs that won the Herder Memorial Trophy. In 1967, he was a standout performer for the CeeBees as they were the first Newfoundland and Labrador club to participate in national Allan Cup play.
Returning from the Western Hockey League, he joined the Gander Flyers and skated with that team for seven seasons until 1975. He was a member of the Gander team that won the 1969 provincial title, and coached the 1980 Gander club to the provincial championship. He won the senior hockey scoring title in 1971.
Since 1978, Faulkner has been successfully active in international oldtimers hockey, skating with two CeeBee teams that won the International Oldtimers’ Championship.
