Bill Parrott made outstanding contributions to minor hockey, at the local and provincial levels, from 1957 to 1982. His work as a coach and a volunteer administrator began in Corner Brook and continued in St. John’s. He was secretary-treasurer-registrar on the first executive for provincial minor hockey, and played a major role in the organization of minor hockey on a permanent basis.

From 1957 to 1965, Parrott played an extremely prominent part in Corner Brook minor hockey. He coached, obtained sponsors for minor teams and programs and served in a variety of positions on the local executive while continuing to work on the provincial executive. When he moved to St. John’s in 1966, Parrott immediately became involved in that city’s minor hockey program as a very successful coach and as an executive member, eventually serving as president and providing excellent leadership until 1982, coaching at other levels in addition to minor.

His exceptional service, mainly to minor hockey, has been recognized with a variety of awards from Corner Brook, St. John’s, the Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Association, and the Canadian Hockey Association. A provincial minor championship has been named in his honor.
