Walter Davis’ playing career lasted for 25 years, from 1947 to 1971, and his time as a builder of the game eclipsed 30 years, from 1965 to 1994, with exceptional achievements and lasting contributions, especially to Grand Falls minor hockey.

For nearly 50 years, Davis was a well-known, hard-working member of the hockey community within Newfoundland and Labrador, especially in his native Grand Falls-Windsor. He was an outstanding individual in every aspect of hockey, working as a volunteer in the same fashion that he did as a player.

He enjoyed a considerable personal and team success for nearly 25 years, from his school hockey days to intermediate competition with 13 years of provincial senior competition included. A tenacious and impressive defenceman for some elite Grand Falls clubs, he was an important contributor to the various teams on which he played, providing great leadership and exceptional example for his teammates. After his school hockey, Davis played junior, “B” and “A” hockey with Grand Falls.

His career included excessive work as an administrator and a coach, especially at the minor levels. Working as a delegate, a director or an organizing chair, Davis insisted on results of the highest level. He was willing to make the personal sacrifices and provide the expertise and work that was necessary to achieve this level. He organized the highly-successful Grand Falls Intermediate League and served as a director of the Canadian Oldtimers Hockey Association for 10 years after working to put the Grand Falls Oldtimers Hockey League in place.
